Pacific
I grew up sailing with my family in New England, mostly on Long Island Sound. We owned 3 different sail boats from 22’ to 39’. I learned the basics of sailing and became very “comfortable” on boats. At 20 I moved to Colorado and no more sailing. In 2018 I started sailing again. In 2020 I started racing. In 2022 we bought our cruising boat.

Time at Sea
Long day, expected to be sailing down wind in the morning and for the wind to die in the afternoon. We motored in the morning and the wind headed us in the afternoon. We ended up beating in 9-13 knots true for half of the voyage. Arrived late, but the sailing was good even though we were beating into the wind. We passed close to our friends on Quincy as they were heading north and we fired our signal cannon at them, very fun!

Tehuamixtle (Tehualmixtle) to Perula, Mexico
Motored first 90 minutes, wind filled for a nice beam reach and then died off. Motored a short time and wind filled in. Shifted to a deep run as we rounded the cape, continued on a starboard jibe a few miles past the cape then jibed to port. Wind built to 23 true, put reef in main and genoa and continued on a deep run to the anchorage. 2 other boats in the anchorage. A bit rolly, but not too bad. Saw a good size shark as we were arriving.

Cruz de Huanacaxtle to Tehuamixtle (Tehualmixtle), Mexico
Fun sailing for the afternoon in the Bay of Banderas. Took my sister and her 2 friends out for a casual sail. Great wind, built to about 17 knots, died off as we returned to the harbor.

Mostly calm and motored until we turned into Banderas Bay, then has a nice deep reach to La Cruz in 10 knots. Humpback breached 100' from boat, very impressive. We had a great week in Chacala.

Chacala to Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Mexico
Motored around the PTA Sayilita then wind filled to 7 knots. Sailed on stbd for a couple miles and tack to port. Sailed about 3 hours before having to motor sail due to dieing winds.

Cruz de Huanacaxtle to Chacala, Mexico
Calm morning, motored for about 4 hrs. Wind filled, sailed wing on wing, then jibed the genoa, then jibed around point. Motored last hour in as wind headed us. Too many whales to count(again). Almost had a Humpback run into us, he was within 10' and turned sharply. Hooked a small fish but lost it right at the boat. The sailing we did was very nice.

Las Islitas to Chacala, Mexico
We motored the entire distance. wind was about 5-7 knots true dead behind us. Fairly calm swell. Our anchor was wrapped and jambed on a rock when it was time to leave. A neighbor immediately came over and dove on the chain and freed it, thanks! We enjoyed Isla Isabel very much and are looking forward to our next visit there. There was a great bunch of cruisers there while we were which made it extra nice.

North Pacific Ocean to Las Islitas, Mexico
Good sailing down from Mazatlan. We left at 17:00 for an overnight so that we would leave in daylight and arrive in daylight. The first 7 hours we had 10-12 knots at 150-160 degrees and the Hydrovane did all the work. After we Jibed the wind had built and it was time to hand steer for the target. Tons of humpbacks as we approached Isabella.
