Pacific

I grew up sailing with my family in New England, mostly on Long Island Sound. We owned 3 different sail boats from 22’ to 39’. I learned the basics of sailing and became very “comfortable” on boats. At 20 I moved to Colorado and no more sailing. In 2018 I started sailing again. In 2020 I started racing. In 2022 we bought our cruising boat.

Mexico-Hilo, Hawaii

My longest passage yet, by far. The swell treated us a little rougher than we expected, seemed to be a confused swell. Stella performed excellent. We sheared a mounting bolt on the Hydrovane about 2/3 of the way across and could no longer use the wind vane steering. Fortunately the auto pilot and hydrogenerator pulled through to handle most of the steering. Surprised by how little we saw out there, no dolphins, no whales, didn't catch any fish, mostly just boobies.

Kim Eddy - Awesome! How long do you plan on staying before heading to the NW? Absolutely loving the Marquesas. Just finished going around Nuku Hiva, tomorrow we head to Ua Pou. Although the humidity is at times stifling.

Return to La Cruz (3rd time)

Motored most of the way around the cape and into Banderas Bay. Has really nice sailing the last 2 hours on a deep reach. The wind built to about 14 knots true. Had to cross a downwind leg of a regatta as we approached La Cruz. Caught 5 fish, all got their own back. 2 small Skipjacks and 3 large Crevalle Jack.

Chamela Bay- Tehuamixtle

Uncomfortable short period swell. We were able to sail for a few hours. Rolly night on anchor in Perula.

Back to Tenitatita

Great day! Started off motoring and caught our first Mahi after about 45 minutes under way. Surprisingly we soon got enough wind to sail and we were able to sail about 3/4 of the day. After a couple hours of running deep we set the spinacker and we sailed with it in 7-9 knots for 3 hours.

Barra - Carrizal

It is nice to get moving again. We did really enjoy Barra, but 10 days is too long for us to spend in any one spot. We stayed a little longer than planned since we had a new membrane for the water maker shipped in from La Paz. The PPM were getting too high with the original membrane as it has over 1500 hours on it. The water was testing close to 700 PPM, now with the new membrane it is below 200. Nice calm day. We motored most of the way, but we were able to sail the last hour on a deep reach in light winds, it was delightful. Very nice to be in a spot where we can swim/snorkel again.
