From Studland Bay Home to Langstone

Quite a breezy trip again in a lumpy sea. Generally a fairly gloomy day with occasional sun. The last day of my Falmouth expedition. Wanted to get back to my mooring in Langstone Harbour. The tide at Hurst Point wasn't turning in my favour until around 1800. So I was never going to get to Langstone before dark. Eventually secured on the mooring around 2300 and home shortly after 1am. Great trip.

Brixham to Studland Bay

This trip of 70nm was planned to meet the east going tide off Portland at around 1700 then use that tide to take me past St Alban Head then around to Studland Bay. And worked well. There wasn't enough wind to sail so I needed the engine the whole way. At times I could back off the revs to Idle when the wind picked up a bit. Left Brixham at 0700 arrived in Studland at 2100, 70nm.

The Yealm to Brixham

Quite a tiring trip today, the sea was quite rough and the wind was a F5 - F6 most I of the way. Hand steered most of the way to give the autohelm a rest.

Up the Carrick Roads

Motored from Falmouth, up the Carrick Roads to find a sheltered place to anchor overnight. The winds are easterly again. They are expected to change tomorrow, to begin the journey back home.

Motorboating from The River Yealm to Falmouth

There was no wind so I motored. Saw some dolphins here and there and also a sun fish.

Brixham to River Yealm

Calm, warm and sunny start. Lots of dolphin encounters and some pilot whales in Brixham bay. Motored most of the way but managed some F4 sailing around Salcombe and Bigbury Bay.

Stopped at Newtown Creek

Planned to go to Lulworth Cove The tide and a westerly wind delayed my start. Then I stopped at Langstone Harbour jetty to get some fresh water. Sometime after 1pm the wind picked up, it was on the nose and I was motoring but it got too rough so I did a u turn and came into Newtown Creek. Get the map out later.

It was a very windy day and the evening race was in doubt but the wind eased and was sailed in a F5 with some F6 gusts.
