Cobourg to Whitby

Very light winds for motoring home. Winds picked up to about 10kts SE just as we were arriving home. Nice end to a great week of cruising to the 1000 Islands and back with great friends from PWM.

Wemp’s Bay to Cobourg Marina

Very calm day, light winds on the nose. Motored along with Elan and Esmeralda. Tied up along the wall in Cobourg. Very quiet here for a long weekend. Dinner at Jack’s Barrel was good and then a fun time on the pier with everyone staying on the wall including Sierra Charlie (George & Danielle).

Beau Rivage 1000 Islands to Wemp’s Bay Anchorage

Gusty winds all day from 5-20kts, a mixture of great sailing, motor sailing and motoring. Beating into the wind early in the trip then motor sailed past Kingston, then close hauled heading SW down the SE shore of Amherst Island. Eventually motored into the wind to Kemp’s Bay and had a rolly evening with the great company of Esmeralda and Elan. Saw a small boat de-masted close to Kingston where we motored close following Elan to make sure they were ok. Once Elan made contact with them and they got their engine started we all continued on and the de-masted boat head into CFB Kingston YC.

Moved with PWM Flotilla to Beaurivage Anchorage

A very windy bumpy ride heading into the wind to relocate closer to Gananoque. Saw gusts up to 26kts. Took a windy path through the islands and rocks with deep but very skinny water 😳 Stayed two nights on anchor here, one rainy afternoon of drinks and (no board games) aboard Elan. Last night enjoyed a play at the Gananoque Playhouse after dinner at Stonewater with Heather & Bill. The play, Cottagers and Indians was very well done and worth seeing.

Loyalist Cove Marina to Stave Island Anchorage

West wind avg 15kts, downwind sail with KAVU. Very overcast and a little chilly on the water today. Great sail past Kingston to the Bateau Channel then continued on past Gananoque to Stave Island. Met up with our friends on Esmeralda & Elan who arrived here a couple days ago. Met Matt & Judy on Juma and had a great dinner with the whole gang at Glen House, a short dingy ride away. Very pretty anchorage with lots of space.

Murray Canal to Loyalist Cove Marina

Very windy day up to 24kt gusts, did a bit of sailing, some motor sailing and later in the day motored to get into dock as weather was looking threatening. Met Debbie & Brian at Loyalist Cove Marina for the night where they made us a lovely dinner.

Port Whitby Marina to Murray Canal

Winds 8-10kts mostly SW, lake was pretty flat, becoming a little choppy as we approached Presqu’ile. Beautiful sunny day. Decided to push on past Cobourg to the canal before stopping so motor sailed all day to keep our speed up. Always an interesting trip through Presqu’ile Bay as the depth sounder alarms constantly and mostly reads zero due to weeds although you do have to follow the markers closely as it does get very shallow. Stopped at west end of the canal tied up to the concrete wall with one other boat. Met Martin from SV Hooloo who is sailing with two other guys also named Martin from PCWC and they also left from PWM this morning. Beautiful calm night here.

Heywood Is. to Killarney

Another beautiful summer day in the North Channel of Georgian Bay. After a leisurely breakfast and a swim we motored into the wind back to Killarney, docked at Killarney Mountain Lodge Marina. Had a late lunch at the World Famous Herbert’s Fish & Chips which was very good. Checked out the bakery but it was too late in the day and they did not have much left. We had to bid farewell to our Swedish friends for now as we head home (by car) and they continue on The Great Loop and head toward Lake Michigan from here.

Baie Fine to Heywood Island

After breakfast of blueberry pancakes, peameal bacon and maple syrup we moved Thaleia to the top of Baie Fine then took the dinghy further up to The Pool. Hiked a trail up to Lake Topaz a small lake on the Killarney ridge where Eva & I went for a swim. Then we sailed Thaleia down Baie Fine across Frazer Bay to Heyward Island. Anchored for the night with many other boats. No wind for sailing but a beautiful calm night on anchor.

Georgian Bay on Thaleia 🇸🇪

We met up again with Eva & Tomas in Killarney after they spent the last two weeks sailing Thaleia from the Welland Canal to Georgian Bay while we have been home adjusting to land life. Beautiful day on the water. We motored into the wind out of Killarney, across Frazer Bay and then through the narrow entrance into Baie Fine. So nice to be enjoying the beauty of Canada again and special to be here with Eva & Tomas from Sweden. They feel at home in Georgian Bay as it’s very similar to the Swedish archipelago near Stockholm.
