Midwestern sailor chasing the wind and water. Open water and a sense of freedom from being on a boat is my happy place and I’m determined to find opportunities to make that happen whenever possible.

US SailingOur last day of the trip started out with a nice, foggy overcast day. But it was the perfect palate for what we had in the store. Nora had shared that she wanted to get a little bit more practice with under power and also some more hands-on practice, with really being able to see and understand the shape of the sail and how the sail should be trimmed based on where the wind was coming from. Since we had a light wind day, it was a nice opportunity to practice some of those underpower skills and to be able to really play with how the sails need to be trimmed without having to fight some much higher winds like we'd had earlier in the week After a lunch stop and more sail trim practice we closed our day with celebratory drink and recap.

Started our day out with a boat check and sail plan. Headed out to our training bout, aka Reba, to hone in those under power skills needed for picking up a mooring ball and anchoring … then we headed to Arkansas Bend to anchor for lunch. Then we headed off to our final destination for today, the Sometimes Islands (which are just starting to show up above water). We’re all tucked in on anchor, watched the sunset then cooked dinner. A wonderful day of watching Nora stretch herself and pick up new sailing skills!!

We started the day off with our sail plan, boat checks, and a scout out of the new location of the pump out dock (our first stop tomorrow). Our sail started out with pretty sporty winds (and a massive delay in starting sailties), and very spicy gusts upwards of 20knts. Lots of sunshine with temps in the low 70's, the wind out of the north had a definite crispness to it. A anchor practice / lunch stop was welcomed. We warmed up some tortilla soup and tortillas. We concluded our day with a fabulous, lighter wind, sail and tacking practice ... looking forward to tomorrow.
