Plymouth
Former Royal Naval Diving Officer. Left in 2000 after 16 years. The remainder of my working life has been helping people with technology. Alongside that, I have spent 15 years in the CCF (Combined Cadet Force), teaching years 10-14 cruising sailing as a mate and powerboating as instructor. I have owned a Drascombe Lugger for 15 years. Started getting adventurous with her sleeping overnight etc and soon realised I needed something else. I now own a Hunter Horizon 232

The RYANice morning, got past Dandy hole motoring and put up the main, then almost immediately a front went through with 35kts gust and torrential rain. Stopped at SSC to get the main down and then motored home.

We’re in a bit of a hurry to get to the Eliot Arns before the band stopped playing at 7 so motored and sailed the way up the Lynher

Great sail, mostly a reach with the scooper at the last few miles.

Motoring for a couple of hours as it was on the nose. It backed to a SW and made it easier with main up. Later in the day it picked up a bit but only as we were arriving in Plymouth. Had the sink on pretty much all the way.

Really interesting journey that started with the Scooper out on a reach and then having to put that away because there was too much wind and then trying to fight the tide to get round the Skerries. Managed to turn a 26 mile journey into 35 miles but got into Salcombe with the Sun still high in the sky. Great day out.

Left about 1030 came round the corner and was instantly presented with a force five from the Northeast which was fantastic. I thought I’d be home by lunchtime. Of course it only lasted an hour and then it came back round to an Easterly and reduced in force so I was able to continue to sail but was going diagonally across the bay even with the engine assisting. Once I got past Looe Island, I was able to come close in to shore with a lot of beating and a lot of patience, I finally got home.
