Made it to Brooklyn Marina with the Help of NYPD

We ran out of fuel just as we were about to pass under the Manhattan Bridge, and were adrift on the East River in 3+ knots opposite current. Called out "pan-pan" for assistance. We were starting to drift towards the Williamsburg Bridge (that we passed prior to Manhattan Bridge) and attempted to drop anchor, but a shackle I had used on a newly spliced rode got stuck! Luckily, NYPD came out of nowhere and pinned themselves between us and the Bridge, tossed a few lines, and whisked us away with 600hp to the Brooklyn Marina! After a couple of hours of bleeding the lines and other maintenance, we fired up the Perkins, once again, to get us out of the East River and into open waters (minus the HEAVY barge traffic!) where we could open the sails and take a breath on our way to our anchorage for the night at Gravesend Bay. Whew!
