NauticEdcold and breezy. winds 15-22 with gusts to 30. seas 1 foot most of the time but 2-3 on the way back in the channel. There was a carrier coming into Norfolk on our way out. once we got our sails up outside the Willoughby channel we were off. we were doing 7 knots most of the time. we made it to the back river inlet and then headed back. on the way back winds were building and we reefed the main. we didn't lose any speed. the winds continued to build and we reefed again. we had a sustained gust to 30 knots. once again really minimal change in speed. at one point we got up to 9 knots over ground. there was supposed to be a submarine going out as we got to the thimble shoals channel but we didn't see it. we were on a beam reach each way. it was a blast out in good wind (and not having to point to high).

winds 5-8 and dropping. no seas. racing on southern cross, a comfort cruiser. we had some wind before the race and at the start. we started on starboard but had to tack to make the line. a good amount of traffic at the line. we were a bit late to the line. we had a West start and headed out on a port tack. we tacked to starboard and crossed some traffic but ended up behind most of the boats. it was hard to shape the main and the leech wasn't looking good. we put on some tension with the vang and we sped up. we had some trouble getting upwind as we can't point well. past the dust mark we were headed downwind and it was slow. we went wing on wing and setup a prevented. past the next mark we gybed the jib and tightened up a bit for a beam reach. past the start finish line we retired as the wind completely died. we

sunny with a high of 60. winds 5-10 with calm to 1 foot seas. we sailed out of Willoughby spit and through the channel out to the Chesapeake. we were sailing on a broad reach for a while and then gybed to a broad reach on the other tack. we had a calm casual day in the water but enough wind to fill our sails. we were going 4+ knots downwind. we had some lunch while we put it on auto pilot. good thing someone was looking out for the channel marker because although it was far away when we started we got with feet of it. we turned back and could only make 2.5 knots against the current. we sailed for a while beating and then turned on the motor to get back to port on time. a very nice relaxed day of sailing.

winds starting 10-12 knots and dropping to 5-9 during the race which only lasted about 30 minutes. seas 1 foot. the race was jsks but was shortened to js. originally 2.8M but probably halved at 1.56M. we started in port and were pretty early. we did 2 360s and were still early. instead of doing 1 more we headed up the line. we ducked scootalong. as we got closer to rc we tacked back to starboard. we were next to grey area and leeward. they were coming down even though we were leeward. Virginia Lee was coming up on port. Andy was yelling starboard to no avail as they weren't turning on time. we tacked to avoid collision and ducked behind Grey area. luckily we had room. I think we started the race at this point. grey area tacked as well stealing our air and virginia Lee took the pin for a long ride. we got clear air and headed to j. Grey area tacked early and was going to need 2 more to make the mark. scootalong was to our starboard on a starboard tack while we were still on port. we tacked behind Arberia which was a great spot as we had just enough room to make the mark. in preparing for the mark and downwind with the spinnaker out to port we raised the pole and preset the guy. as we beared away to round the mark we raised the spin halyard and got it flying followed by dousing the jib. with Chris on the bow it went really smooth. we had a tweaker on the leech of the sail we noticed half way to the finish. after Susan noticed this and we took it off the spinnaker was much more full and we gained a knot of speed. we got passed by scootalong along the way and finished 5th. 😔 it was a good race and we got the spinnaker flying nicely during the race.

sunny with winds 10-15 knots and 1-2 foot seas. strong currents and good wind today. we got her up over 9 knots over water. got to thimble shoals fairly quickly. the boat doesn't do a great job of getting upwind though. coming back even with a good amount of wind we had to motor as beating would have taken a while to make progress. Docking under a decent amount of wind was surprisingly uneventful.

clear skies with 1 foot seas and about 10 knots of wind. this was not the forecast of 16 knots and 4 foot seas. the course was kjks 3.5M but was shortened to KJ. We timed the start well but had to maneuver a bit which made us a little late. still a good start and in the middle of the fleet. we headed to k. got into some air behind vender dreki? and decided to tack to clean air. they tacked too so we didn't complete the tack. we had fresh air and tacked behind Arberia in a good spot to make the mark. we made k and beared away to j. we were cruising on a close reach. we finished right behind Arberia and did well in the spinnaker class. the winds were from ahead of the mast so we didn't get to raise the spinnaker during the race but we made sure to fly it on the way home. we finished 3rd of 7.

winds 15 knots and climbing with 4-5 foot seas and a couple of sprinkles. we had the same course as the equinox race G15 J S. although the start was closer to the channel. I got my seasickness out of the way before and after the race. we timed the start about a well as possible on starboard and stayed on this line most of the way. we tacked to port (maybe a little late) to be sure we could make it as we were a bit away from it. we were able to fall off a bit. then we headed to j. we were carrying the 135 with a reef. we were still overpowered. the was some differing opinions on what we should do with the main as we were overpowered under jib alone. looking back, I think pulling the jib tracks back and letting the top of the jib twist off would have helped with heel and let us use the main more effectively to balance the boat. 🤷♀️ there was a good amount of flood current and we stayed away from j to make sure we didn't get pushed into it. we gybed and trimmed in to head back to rc and the finish. we weren't in the top of the pack this day. I think it wasn't the best weather for us. I was so upset about it I chucked again on the way home. 😉 hoping for more reasonable sea state on Wednesday. I helmed back which helped keep my mind off the waves while Andy and crew tried different options with the main.

winds around 5-7 knots with 1 for seas. headed down towards j downwind and brought up the spinnaker. Chris coached us on the order of putting up the spinnaker. we hooked the pole to the mast. after the tack: bring the pole up preset the guy. bring up the halyard get the kite flying douse the jib. we got to pull up the spinnaker and change course to adjust the guy and sheet. we gybed a couple times marked j and came back around upwind. tacked a few times and "gybe set" ? around k. also talked about depowering with the main.

mostly sunny and around 80 with winds from the SSE AT 8-12 knots and 1 foot swells. ebb current at 0.5 to 0.75 knots. course was 3.8M KLS all to port. we timed the start well and were at full speed at the line. there was a mess of boats 2 boat lengths ahead of us that got in each others way and Arberia was over early and had to make her way back and avoid us in the process. luckily she succeeded in both. we made our way to k and tacked first. this would put us on starboard coming into the mark on our next tack. we tacked behind another boat and headed for the mark. we didn't run into any traffic jam at k. on the way to L we caught black widow but couldn't pass her to leeward with the bad wind off her sails. we put the pole up which helped a little but not enough. taking the pole down i splashed it in the water. that most certainly didn't help. we were given room at the mark. we made our turn around it and cleared it by a foot. it was pretty close. widow didn't think we made the turn as quick as we could and let us know. but the results say otherwise. we trimmed in the sails and headed for the finish. we were able to bear off and gain some speed. we sailed well and were pretty close to hull speed. we finished 6 out of 7 and it was a tight race with 4 minutes separating first from 7th. the finish didn't represent how well we sailed. it was a well sailed race. on the way back I got to helm which I always love. we were on starboard and base runner was under motor (on port) but she didn't look like she was giving way and we were getting closer than I was comfortable with. I might have been able to duck behind her but another boat was pretty close behind. I didn't give the crew notice and announced the tack as I did it. (crash tack) it was a great race and great sail and a wonderful end to the regular season. I'm really looking forward to spinnaker for October.
