A lumpy beat down the Solent.

Couldn't get GPS until outside Cowes. strong winds to lower sail in harbour. Gusting 27 apparent. The scrub off at Newport paid dividends with the paddle wheel log reading accurately we just managed 7 kts fairly close hauled in some of the flatter areas before Ryde. The classic Solent chop (although a bit bigger than normal) dropped us down to 4.5 knots as close to the wind as she would go. Back in her home berth now for a few important jobs (like fixing a mysterious leak) before a few short trips when tides and weather permit.

Off wind dash then drama in Newtown

Strong WNW wind, struggled to pick up buoy and nearly lost boat hook. Retrieved by a passing rib. Rival 36 on her way out ran aground behind us (blown onto bank) but we were able to help pull her off. Didn't stop Sailties recording when we were secure so average speed is showing much lower that actual.

Motoring due to light NNW winds.

Perfect timing to pass Portland Bill on an East going spring far enough out to clear the pot markers but inside the overalls as they started to develop.

Moira BARBER - sunset as we settled down for the night, in portland. I did not put the snubbed on correctly. so had to get up at 2.30am. with chain jumping. Also found windless not working, snubbed put back on and back to bed. rain and wind +++ all morning . so made bread. Had to pull anchor up, used leaver for last bit. Round to Weymouth, still rain and more rain to come.
