LCR series 1 race 1

winds 16+ shifting and big gusts. it was about 55 degrees. sunny but chilly. we had a perfectly timed start over the line on starboard. we came close hauled went for a while and tacked to port. rounded K with rides and wind pushing us closer to the mark. rounded the mark all and headed downwind to j. headed a bit to starboard to go wing on wing but we had better speed once heading back to the mark. came closer to that one as well and headed to the start finish line. race shortened to one lap. skipper: Andy crew: Susan, Beth, Ray and me

Practice sail

it was hot today 80+, with water temps at 55. a great day for sailing with Andy. We put all the sails on the boat and got it ready with the main reefed. it was just Andy and me. we left the dock without incident got to the inlet and turned into the wind to put up the main with me jumping and Andy reeling in the slack. I was at the helm for the ride. we headed towards k and then down to j. went back to l and then talked back to shore. we got a chance to unreef the main at the inlet and then i brought it down for the ride home for which Andy took the helm. we tidied up the boat and back on land. what a great day

veterans day race

seas at 2 feet. winds out of the wsw at 15 to 20 knots. we went with the 135 which was more than enough. we didn't reef the main and probably should have. snafoo right before the start with the whisker pole attachment breaking off the main. we got a bit of a late start. current was a strong ebb and working against us heading to j. celebration hit the mark and made us slow down almost loosing steerage. headed to k then l. coming back to j we took an early tack towards shore. the current was pushing us back but the starboard tack was better. after rounding j we headed back to the start wing on wing. lots of things went wrong and we were overpowered but we did all right. skipper: Andy crew: me Beth chuck

Octoberfest 5

sunny with wind 6-8 knots. seas were flat. great day for sailing. the start was crowded with 9 boats. 4 went over the line early and some came straight back into the other boats going across on starboard. even before that there was a lot of ducking and turning about to get in position. we crossed the line within seconds of the start. going to k we fight with base runner. she tried to push us up while we were passing. we passed her before the mark. Arberia was way ahead. we rounded the mark well and started downwind. again we were neck and neck with a boat we were gaining ground on. we caught her by the mark but had to get to the outside leeward. we rounded the mark at the start right behind and passed on the upwind. once more round k and we finished 2nd across the line and first in our class. the final results were a win for creek water in this race and every race in the series giving us the series win. skipper: Andy crew: Jayne Beth ray me

Round the lights race

sunny and 60 warming to 68. winds starting strong at 15 knots but died down as the race went on. we started at opcyc marina which is tight for a lot of boats. Andy was on the timer for the start and we nailed it. we chose to head east to the thimble shoals light house upwind and into the current. wind from the north expected to shift east. we stayed to the starboard leeward side of the channel. good choice as a freighter made the windward boats tack out of the way. we rounded the lighthouse and stayed with the jib which was flying nicely. as the wind slowed we put up the spinnaker. it was hard keeping wind in the sail. took some time for a sandwich on the downwind. italian sub from jersey mikes hit the spot. thanks Al. after turning the second light house we were smoking upwind at 8 knots. it appeared Al thought we were going too fast. we didn't slow down. the finish line at the harbor was interesting into the wind with lots of current. on a starboard tack we couldn't make the green channel marker. on a port track we got pushed back to where we started. and we had traffic messing with us. got over the line and headed home after a great day of sailing. skipper: Al crew: me ray Andy al Tom

Bold Mariner Cup

a cold start to the day but it ended warm. sunny all day with winds starting at 8-10 and dying and shifting and coming back and generally moving all over. Andy stayed us off with Blueberry muffins on the way out which hit the spot. the race starting bearing into the wind and fighting the current. took a while to get to the pin. we had a nice downwind leg that was more like a beam reach. coming back to the finish the wings were shifting and we were doing great then would lose it and get it back. after the race Beth had hummus and I broke out the meat and cheese. it was a really nice ride back (and I got to helm) skipper: Andy Crew: me ray Beth

winds 8 -12 knots. started with drizzle but ended on partly sunny skies. we had an amazing start on port passing ahead of all the boats on starboard and getting to the line first. we were leeward and pushed Arberia off making her fall behind us. tacked to k at a great spot while Arberia needed to tack tack and the fleet was well behind. rounded k downwind. took a bit to get wing on wing but no worries. we didn't lose momentum and the pole went up. rounded the start back to k still in the lead. took a little later tack to k which gave us room. again Arberia needed to tack. rounded k the second time towards the line and kept pace with Arberia with a spinnaker. finished first of all boats. and 10 minutes + over most of the fleet. skipper: Andy crew Al Jayne Beth me
