Lou, the skipper of this trip enjoyed it so much this year (2026) she is doing it again in 2027, twice!! The first trip is fully booked hence putting these extra dates on. St Malo is a truly beautiful walled city with some amazing restaurants and local craft shops. You can walk round the walls in an hour or so which gives you amazing views towards the Channel Islands. We will head through the enormous lock to moor in the Basin Vauban which is right next to the walled city, a great spot. As well as the city there are some interesting stone carvings to explore and much more. We will get to St Malo via the Channel Islands, I would expect our first stop from Gosport will be Alderney but depending on weather and tide we could make Guernsey in one passage. The crew are always involved in the decision making, due to the lack of wind on the last trip it was agreed we would head out from St Malo headed Weymouth, a long but fantastic passage, as it turned out there was wind the following day but the whole crew loved the long passage and the fact we were able to sail every planned sailing day bar the last day of the trip.
The Normandy coast is peppered with lovely little French fishing villages. Take your time exploring this beautiful pocket of Europe.
Gosport, a popular marina on the western edge of Portsmouth Harbour with good rail, road and ferry connections to London and easy access to the Solent. Also a good base to visit Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard and the famous Mary Rose
You can't not love Braye harbour with it's lovely beach and great restaurants. Alderney has a fascinating history having been inhabited since the Neolithic period. Explore the best preserved small Roman Fort in Europe and try and find the the eighteen forts and batteries that were built to try and protect Alderney from invasion by the French. In later times Alderney was held by Germany during WWII and it's entire population were evacuated. Some great coastal walks to be had around the Island.
St Peter Port can now be accessed at all times of tide with a considerable number of walk ashore pontoons outside the marina itself. A great town with plenty of restaurants and shops if that is your thing. It is a great island however I have to admit not having explored much of it - still something to do
St Malo is a beautiful walled city, with fabulous views from the wall, you can walk round the whole city. There are plenty of shops and restaurants with great sea food if this is your thing. There are some fascinating rock carvings to have a look at and much more, explore and find. Without doubt a great destination.
A lovely little Island with some great anchorages on the south coast, opportunities for early swims, get ashore with the tender and explore. There are no cars allowed on Sark or Little Sark, bicycles are available to hire if you wanted to check out the whole island. Sark has an interesting history which is explained in the museum.
Popular Marina in Portsmouth Harbour, great transport links and much improved facilities.
