6-day advanced offshore Yachtmaster qualifying sailing course with London School of Sailing
An RYA YachtMaster qualification is required if you wish to work professionally as a yachtsman. For those not looking for a career in yachting, achieving the YachtMaster qualification demonstrates they are a safe, responsible, and competent skipper. The RYA YachtMaster qualification is a certificate of competency recognised around the world and is accepted by every charter company as evidence of competency to charter a boat. *Price includes provisions and use of the boat for the additional 2 exam days. Does not include exam fee to RYA (approx £250.)

Most boat handling will take place in the Solent, but passage could you outside of the Solent.
At LSS we are all about creating cracking experiences to be shared by a growing community of seafaring adventurers! Whether it is exploring the Caribbean Islands, racing around the Fastnet Rock, learning what on earth all this sailing malarky is on about, or just watching the sun go down with a cold beer/gin/wine. Sailing is an excellent facilitator of all of these. LSS was conceived in 2014, by our founder Ruaraidh Plummer. Inspired by instructing hundreds of Yacht and Dinghy training courses and seeing how the majority of students rarely put it into practice before forgetting everything. After teaching dinghy sailing in Vassiliki for 6 years and seeing how receptive people are to learning in a friendly environment, we’ve set out to help sailors learn from the ground up. LSS merged with Equinox Sailing in 2017 and was reborn from the success of this partnership in 2019, to better serve our community.
LSS have a knack for bringing in excellent instructors to run their certificated courses. They’re friendly and approachable, but also bring real depth of knowledge backed up by broad, real-world sailing experience.

THE COURSE This is intensive training over 3 or 4 days for experienced skippers who wish to gain this professional qualification. The course will help you refine and practice your skills under the instruction of an experienced RYA YachtMaster Instructor. Responsibilities of skipper Close quarters boat handling Hoisting, reefing and dropping sails Boat handling under sail - Tacking, gybing and efficient sail trim Boat handling under motor - Mooring/Berthing and anchoring IRPCS - Rules of the road and signals Safety, plus man overboard General seamanship, and basics of maintenance Navigation techniquies Meteorological knowledge and understanding THE EXAM Once you’ve completed this prep course, you will have been advised by your instructor if you are ready or not take the exam for either Yachtmaster Coastal, or Yachtmaster Offshore. If you are not quite ready to take the exam, you can still take part as crew to witness the process with the other students to help prepare you better for what it entails. You can take prep weeks until you are ready or if it is miles you need then perhaps a mile-builder trip is what you may need. Once you’ve passed your exam, you will be a member of the group of the most qualified of sailors in the world, congratulations!
