Light winds but awesome sailing in outer harbor. Bryan did a great job helping navigate black rock channel. Picked up a mooring at Peddocks Island and had a relaxing lunch. Great day!

What a day! Strong westerly throughout the day, consistently blowing in 15-20 knots. Ocassional gusts in the low 30s made Bryan pee his pants. Our attempt to anchor in the Nahant Harbor was unsuccesful due to strong wind, but we did manage to reef the main to the second reef on the way out of the harbor. We had stronger gusts on the way back where the boat heeled past 45 deg. Definitely the toughest (but consistent) condition in my short sailing career. We motored sailed around Spectacle to avoid going directly up wind and lowered the main as we entered the main channel. Things to learn: which knot to use when securing a reefed main (rope through gromets).

Ross Gilleland - Congrats. This week has been sporty for sure.

Sailing with Steve, Tom, and Bill. We launched right after the low tide, and motorsailed all the way past the Hypocrite Pass. The wind picked up after the lunch break and we sailed back through the Narrows and the Small Boat Channel. The headsail furler line was set up very short and the headsail only could be raised as a jib. Maybe it was intentionally set that way for some reason? I should remember to set the fenders lower next time (should slightly touch the water).

Left the Scituate harbor after breakfast and raised our spinnacker as we head NNW. Lowered the spinnacker we as started heading back west. The wind direction was in our favor and we didn't need to tack or jibe throughout the entire time (except when we hove-to). Top speed near 7.2 kt. Also noticed a sunfish fin on the way.

Day 2 of ASA 104 3-day trip. Started the morning with anchoring practice and dinghy training at Peddocks, and left for Scituate after lunch. Wind direction was not in our favor on the eastbound leg of the trip, and we had to tack more that we wanted and constantly cheat to head up as much as possible. Steve spotted a pilot whale after we pass the Boston Light. Moored in Scuituate harbor for the night and had dinner on land.
