crewed for Louise, along with Marie-Claire, Kaj, and Tommy. calm wind around 5 knots, but had sudden strong gusts around 27 knots on the way back. first time sailing past the deer island point. Kestrel had issues with the wheel (locking up when turning) and reef line clutch. the nav system also didn't show the boat position, depth, and speed.

mild easterly for the first half of the trip. the wind slowed down as we tacked around Long Island. sailed down wind wing on wing on the way back, but had to motor sail for the last 20 minutes. Barry Perlman captained the boat. John, Eric, Feizal, and I crewed, all taking turns at the helm.

last day of the season. continued our spinnaker practice from the previous day. certainly better than practicing in the Charles. going beam reach with the spinnaker up was more challenging than expected as it adds much more heel to the boat also causes strong weatherhelm. tied up to a mooring ball at Peddocks to took a break before returning.

started the day with 5 knt southerly. decided to sail up the river to change things up. went all the way to the Alford bridge, docked without motor at the Schraffs public dock. We couldnt get to the casino since the bridge has low clearance. the wind picked on our way back to the harbor, and we sailed around the seaport and the constitution wharf. also went to the airport dock to check out the way out. we also made a sacrificial offering to Poseidon by dropping a winch.

low wind day. timed the departure so that we can come back with the incoming tide. decen wind in 5-10 range on the way out but absolutely no wind on the way back. had to motor in for the way back. almost tried to get into the small boat chanel but the wind didn't help us.

probably the best sailing condition I've had so far. outgoing tide with an easterly at 10 knots to start. the wind picked up more as we turned around Long Island and back into the main channel. first time on J27, which has more ample cockpit space than j24.

Jack Polnar - Nothing like sea breeze to cap a heart shaped tack around long! it was great to chat with you at BSC!

steady southerly around 10 knots. first day of advanced sailing. first time on 24. j24 is nimbler and heels more than sonar. practices leaving and entering the dock with the outboard. took turns at the helm with Anthony and Paul. Nicolas was the instructor.

steady 5-10 knots of wind on the way out to the spectacle island. returned after passing the airport and the wind died about half way through. almost got towed in but the wind picked up again once we came closer to the harbor. sailed with Shiraz and Ken. need to learn more about sail trim going downwind. sailed on Mary which is great overall except the main sail halyard. we couldnt raise the sail all the way. maybe wrap it around a winch a few more times next time? probably a good boat for more windy days. better than Sugaree or Pete.
