Sailed dinghies from 1965. From 1974-92 raced 1/4 and 1/2 ton IOR yachts, mostly on NE coast, including return passages to The Netherlands. From 1992 based in Nottingham (and as it’s about as far as one can get from the sea in the U.K.) owning and racing flying fifteens mainly inland with only occasional outings on the sea. Lovely 15-18 knot NW breeze, sunshine and clear skies (30C) wind dissipated and ended up motoring to the Hamble approach

SW winds light, 2-3 max. Motor sailing. Sea state smooth. Fog patches. Surprisingly light traffic in shipping lanes - no deviation needed

Started with 18 gusting 25 NW wind sea state 1 -2. One then 2 reefs. Very dense shipping lanes, had to negotiate crossing on VHF. Wind then dropped away nearing Isle of White and motor sailed last 3 hours

Skipper for this trip. Unfortunately very little wind. Glassy sea - ended up motoring the whole way. Very dense shipping lanes some weaving and negotiating to cross the west to east lane particularly. Sunny day on way into harbour. Dinner in Cherbourg then left at 5:30 for journey back to Solent

Decent westerly breeze sea state 3-4 but regular. Good pace to and through shipping lanes. Wind held until entry to needles then motor sailing back

NW 3-5 rough confused seas after needles through to shelter of peninsula possibly due to westerly gales in preceding days. 3 of 5 seasick, 2 wholly incapacitated.
