Cami De Conto

This was luckily a calm overnight trip that we were sailing beam reach with little wind in flat seas. I said it was a lucky condition because Jurri ended up sailing this entire trip solo. Juliette started with fever as soon as we left the reef of Vanua Balevu and it got really high during the night. She just wanted to be in my arms and breastfeeding the whole time. Her fever got up to 39degC!! I was in contact with her paediatrician and she was helping me with making decisions. The thing is, we were sailing into a veeeeery remote area. No airport, no hospital, no doctors.. just coconuts, palm trees and pristine beaches 😅 By the time we were about to enter the red of Namuka, our engine shut off 🥴 the racional was good, we thought it could only be fuel if it just died like that. So the first thing we checked was the feeding line and we immediately saw it was chafing against the engine and it had a little hole on it. We put that welding tape around it and it worked. We never had a problem assessed and resolved in such short time. 5min later we had the engine on again and we could safely proceed inside the reef. Juliette had her morning nap and woke up without fever from the nap 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 it was over! Now we could enjoy Namuka!

Fun overnight sail to Vanua Balevu. Usually it’s against the trade winds but we took advantage of some southerlies and had a great beam reach sailing there. And we caught the first fish of the season and also lost a big one🫠

At 5am Jurri woke me up and we lifted anchor under the full moon. He had been working online since 9pm, with meetings after meetings, so as soon as we left the reef and hoisted all the sails, he went to sleep and I took charge of Songster. It was a lovely and intense morning, being a solo mom and a solo sailor 😅 Conditions were nice, we sailed 30nm upwind in one tack, and the sea was okish, 1 to 1,5m waves max. Songster did incredible well, way above our usual avg speed, specially in upwind. We left with other 4 sailboats to the same anchorage, and we were the first ones to arrive. Ok, we left quite early, maybe one hour before the fleet, but that doesn’t really matter, I won the regatta anyways because I was undermanned 🤣🤣 Now we are off to enjoy the coconut trees and the snorkelling sites 🤩🎉🌴🤿

We made it to Fiji!!!!! The trip from Minerva Reef to Fiji was spectacular 🤩 Songster was flying in a beam reach angle, 20-25kts of wind, in pure glory. The waves could have been a little smaller though! But they didn’t prevent us from having such a great time!!! Welcome to cruising life, Juliette ❤️

First sailing voyage of Juliette!! We are happy to arrive in minerva reef after 6 days of sailing. We waited for over 2 months for a good weather window and we got it! First two days we were sailing nicely downwind; third day we were motoring in a calm with flat waters and lots of rain; forth day we were having a broad reach; and then fifth and sixth day we were having a beam reach, sometimes reaching angle, but with little waves 🙏🏼 After hearing stories of sailors that left before us and had a miserable trip, with lots of things breaking down, with everyone seasick, and even boats having a knockdown, we are glad we waited for the right window to introduce sailing to Juliette 🤗🤗🤗
