Mainly using engine to make progress but the wind did come up enough to sail for an hour. Anchored at East Head for lunch and then motored up to West Itchenor for the night.

Dead downwind out to The Needles (NE) up to 18kts. Jib only until out into the Channel then raised the main as the wind dropped and turned easterly. Tacked downwind towards St. Albans with a big spring tide pushing us towards Weymouth. Wind lessened to 5kts apparent towards late afternoon so dropped sail and motored for the last five miles. Arrived just before the tide turned.

Blustery sail upwind from Yarmouth, against tide. Anchored outside Newtown for lunch. Put in a second reef while at anchor. Wind increased further after we set sail again, reaching 23kts from the East. At Cowes we turned on to a broad reach back into Southampton Water and home to Hamble.

Very little wind around and temperatures into the 30s inland. Motored out of Poole with the ebb tide and moored in Studland Bay for lunch. Tide had turned to flood as we left Studland and although we had the sails up to catch a few kts of wind, it was motor sailing all the way to Yarmouth. Arrived in Yarmouth about 1630.

Strong easterly breeze rising from 12 to 18 knots as we set out from Weymouth for Lulworth Cove. Somewhat confused sea state as we headed out into bay with tide against initially. We decided to furl the jib and make progress, motor sailing with main up. Anchored in Lulworth Cove for lunch with reasonable shelter from the easterly swell running outside. Raised the main in the cove after lunch and reached out south to the mandated clearance for Lulworth Range. Turned into the wind and again but we weren’t making reasonable progress in lumpy seas and decreasing wind. Furled the jib and motor sailed around the SW end of St Albans race, then we turned north at Durlston Head and on up to Poole. The wind died away at Old Harry. Very hot in Poole but cooler after sunset with a slight breeze blowing through the marina.
