Beautiful sail. Wind was about 7knots. We did 5-6 knots. I was on the helm for a lot of time. Good group of guys. Thanks Maury.

After an agitating try at clearing a main sail Jam on kestrel we move to Seabreeze and finally got in a sail. John and Kitt were very helpful. Beautiful day.

Went ashore for a quick breakfast. Walked around town a bit went into a large gallery with some interesting art. Modern. Interesting sculpture out in front. Reminiscent of a tornado. Returned to Seraphim. Set sail. A beautiful day. Much easier sail but had to motor sail for quite a while. Bill had me take it into the lower lagoon of Groton Long Point where his dock and house are located. I docked the boat. Thank you Bill. Great sail.

Great start. Sailed an hour or 2. I did a lot of steering and found it a fight against the out going tide. Then it started a light rain. We donned our rain slickers. No problem. Still happy to be on the water. After rounding fishers island off CT we headed for the channel between Great Gull island and Little Gull. Past the light house on Little Gull and turned west. Into Gardeners Bay. weaved our way thru some islands toward Sag Harbor. Upon arriving at Sag Harbor Mooring and anchorage haled them for assistant to find our mooring buoy E8. They sent out a launch to guide us to the inner mooring field and finally found the mooring. Had the dingy with us but I suggested not to mount the outboard since it was heavy and awkward to handle. Bill rowed into to the docks. Was difficult to find a spot to dock the dingy. Went back and forth a bit and finally found the place for all the dinghys. On a very short walk we found the Sag Harbor Tavern. The place was hoping. Sat at the bar and had a great meal of Romain wedge and mussels. Fabulous. Got a little lost finding our way back to the dingy. Then I rowed back to the boat but we did find it difficult finding our boat in the dark. Arrived and went to sleep. Great day.

Cloudy until we returned to dock. This was my check out on Osprey. 1st large boat in the large boat group. Thomas was the instructor observing my handling of the boat. Did: floating forward up to a buoy then backing up to a buoy, Sail handling, tacking , jibing, leaving and entering the dock and refueling . Rickter is an excellent instructor. I passed the test. Yeah. !!!

Great Sail. Peter Shames was skipper on kestrel great breeze. Reached almost 6knots. The day was beautiful. Temp just right. A huge flock of cormorants, almost single file kept coming and coming. Sailed toward the PCH and Topanga canyon blvd. Wing on wing all the way down the channel upon our return.

Training on Osprey. Stayed in harbor. Practiced standing turns, docking, MOB

Beautiful day. Sunny with good wind. On the boat as crew. Marlo was asked to do various jobs as skipper in preparation for a checkout on Osprey. Great job all around. Heave to, spring off a dock w wind pushing into the dock , MOB, docking and abort, reefing, boom preventer, rules of the road, sail trim for different points of sails, pre departure safety talk for the crew.

8am planned departure was pushed back to 10am due to fog. Left at 10 am day became beautiful but then clouded over. Saw a large pod of dolphins. Wind was to light and we wound up motor sailing to get out beyond the 3 nm line from Vincent light to to point Dume. Fog rolled in between 12 and 1. Gaily dense at times but had 1/4 nm of visibility. We turned back took the sails down early and motored back. I gave the helm to Sanjay. He took us into the harbor and about halfway down I took over. At least one boat saw a quick glimpse of a whale. Video showed its tail out then in to the water. We did not see any.

Wind was almost nonexistent. We kept motoring too find it. Found a few minutes of movement. Frustrating but had good company. Good group. Talked about everything but sailing. Saw a group of 3 dolphins in the bay. Also 1 dolphin at the north entrance and perhaps the same one in the channel upon our return.
