Atlanta, GA
Marine Diesel Mechanic ASA Sailing Instructor Sean picked up sailing in 2018 after crewing as “bio-ballast” onboard a Bahamian sloop. He began taking ASA courses and quickly ended up with a job at a sailing club north of Atlanta. What started as a hobby has become a full-time job as a diesel mechanic and all-around sailboat bosun for the club’s fleet. Sean and his wife own the historic sailing yawl, Burgoo [the first fiberglass boat, and the smallest boat, to win the Newport/Bermuda race].

ASAPerfect wind conditions. 15kts with some gusts that encouraged us to reef. Engine fuel failure when we attempted to pick up a mooring ball, so we had to do it under sail! All were safe and now the boat is sound again

12-16kts and gusting to 25kts! Fantastic day. Wish it could have been a bit warmer. Had an interesting situation when in the lee of an island. Dropped the anchor to keep from drifting onto the rocks when the engine failed to start. All good in the end. And a great learning opportunity for the crew!

Fantastic. 10-12kts consistent from the ENE. All threats of rain were greatly exaggerated.

Warm and sunny. Winds blowing 8 to 12 from NW. Towed in Dr. Steven, after his engine died in the harbor.
