Annapolis
Hi there, I retired from the Department of the Army working inside the Pentagon over the past 20 years in Jan 2025. I bought my Amel and my circumnavigation journey began in Mar 2025 with the intent of reaching New Zealand by around Jan 2027. I am a father of a successful son with two grandsons. I’ve never sailed, although I have taken ASA 101, 103 and 104…but with 10 years in the Infantry, 2 years in Afghanistan and a Mechanical Engineering degree, I’m confident in my experience and optimism

Aegean Sea to Parthéni, Greece
Another beautiful sail with 20 kt winds and lovely scenery. Tight Med anchor and chaos after catching another boats chain with our an hor and keel, but finally got in without a scratch. Fifty feet from a little beach and quaint shops.

Ákra Poúnda to Vathýs, Greece
Strong wind 25 kt winds going through channel and some confused seas, but i thought it was a great sail and beautiful day. Tied off to shore with absolutely stunning rock cliffs and stayed next to our friends Pietro and his parents. The rock climbing here surely has high 5.10 grades on a very large rock face. O scrambled a little in sneakers and the rock has great hamd holds but you need to check often as some was hollow sounding and lost of scree from rockfall and slides.

First three days from Dry Tortugas motoring due to 2-3 knot wind. Engine alerted us to oil leak on day four that was bad and we were forced to sail the rest of the way to within 3/4 mile of slip. We had a fun, full day in Dry Tortugas, after anchoring once again in the dark, checking out Fort Hamilton and then took the dingy to Loggerhead Key and snorkeled in the 3rd largest coral reef in the world…beautiful fish, lobster and a conch. The location is beautiful for anchoring, you must anchor within 1 mile of the fort. On the last day we sailed in 2-3m waves with 20-25 knot winds…exciting and didn’t allow for much sleep.
