About the operator

Meet Ninja Penguin Adventures

UK-based sailing venture focused on offshore passages, coastal exploration, and real-world adventure at sea. Run by a hands-on sailing family, we document and share the realities of life afloat — from passage planning and seamanship to discovering remote anchorages and new coastlines.

Our approach is practical, experience-led, and grounded in cruising rather than racing. Whether crossing open water or exploring closer to shore, Ninja Penguin is about building confidence, embracing the elements, and seeing the world from the deck of a boat.

Ninja Penguin is a 57-foot Bowman ocean-going yacht built for serious offshore sailing, long-distance passages, and adventure cruising. Originally launched in 1983, she has an outstanding bluewater pedigree, having completed transatlantic crossings and high-latitude voyages, and is licensed by the UK MCA for unrestricted ocean service. Extensively upgraded for offshore expedition sailing, Ninja Penguin combines classic heavy-weather capability with modern safety systems and practical liveaboard comfort. She is equipped with SOLAS liferafts, EPIRBs, satellite communications, AIS, comprehensive medical equipment, and professional offshore safety gear throughout. Designed for real sailing rather than luxury cruising, the yacht offers spacious accommodation for crew and guests across four cabins, with generous living space ideal for ocean passages, mile building, and hands-on seamanship training. Ninja Penguin specialises in offshore adventures including Atlantic crossings, ARC rallies, Biscay passages, coastal expeditions, and Caribbean cruising. Guests become active members of the crew, gaining genuine experience in navigation, watch systems, sail handling, weather routing, and life at sea under the guidance of 2 experienced ocean sailors.

Questions people ask before booking a sailing trip

A sailor looking out from the foredeck
  • Can I book on my own?

Yes, and most people do. Trips are sold by the berth, so you join a crew rather than needing to bring one. Cabins are shared with someone of the same sex unless you book a whole cabin.

  • Do I need sailing experience?

It depends on the trip, and every listing says which level it is written for. Beginner trips assume you have never sailed; advanced trips assume you can stand a night watch without supervision.

  • What's included in the price?

The berth, the skipper and crew, and the running of the boat. Flights, insurance and most meals ashore are not. Every trip page lists what is and is not included before you pay.

  • What happens if I need to cancel?

The operator's cancellation terms are published on the trip page before you pay a deposit, so you can read them before you commit. They vary by operator and by how close to departure you cancel.

  • What if the weather is bad?

The skipper decides the route, and changing it is normal seamanship rather than a problem. Trips are very rarely cancelled outright; when they are, the operator's terms say what happens.

  • Who are the operators?

Independent charter businesses and skippers we either know personally or have been recommended by past customers. Their registered business details are available upon request. All trips are checked before they go live.
