RYA Day Skipper Practical Day 5

Sailed Back to English harbor. At this time Chris was sailing most of the way. There was a mix up with my RYA VHF SRC test and I needed to work that out so I could do the practicle before leaving Antigua. turned out was able to finish that before leaving the Country. Took over the sailing at Goat Head Channel and sailed to English Harbor where we practiced MOB for when only 2 people are on board because when sailing it may only be Liz and I. we also practiced the standard MOB. Logs say missing Signiture but that is on the License

RYA Daysailor Practical Day 4
Exuma

Chris sailed part way to Deep Bay but ended up below trying to figure course and tangent lines. I sailed a good part before he finally came back up at the end. practiced anchoring Logan the instructor then placed a mark on the chart and told me to sail to it and tell him how I did it and when we arrive. I plotted 2 distinct tangents to where they intersected and checked the chart for depth and what the HW was at which doesn't change a lot here. Followed my compass, once the tangents intersected and depth matched told Logan we arrived. he confirmed. Then we started sailing back Jib only. Chris Sailed a short distance then Logan asked if I think I could sail through some tight reefs. I told him I could. He askes if I lose then wind whatis my plan told him start the engine and furl the jib. Sailed between pelican island and mainland. Set up my course to then sail between shoals and over to the narrow channel between the 1st island an point near Jolly Harbor. Was working a close haul at this time because the wind started to curve around the point and just as the wind hit us head on I was already starting the engine. Practiced docking in different wind conditions and slipping off the dock I then Parallel parked - full power reverse than quick stop full rudder to swing bow in ending parallel to dock. The opening dock lenght was tight with a resturant about 6 feet off the stern and another sailboat 46' at the bow and perpendicular. did it in once try ending parallel to dock and line handlers stepped off. At the end of the day Logan said I did extremely well and said I will pass the practical. that rhe route I had just said he gives to the Yacthmaster Offshore group to test their charting and sailing in tight areas.

Chris motored out of St John Harbour to around Hawks Bill Rock at which point I took over because no shore lights and was using compass and my tandent lines only.

RYA Day Skipper Practical day 1
Exuma

Day one of day skipper practical. Logan is our instructor. He had me pull away from the dock then follow the channel into the harbor further, make some tight kturns then go over to the Fort Nelson side and dock with a broadside wind. No problem. We then sailed out on a broad reach then tacked to head for Falmouth Harbor. This was a chance to get familiar with how the vessel handled ans how the crew worked together
