Hello. I am seeking opportunities as a Skipper, Competent Crew, Mile Builder, Racing Crew, or for voluntary sailing roles. Over the last three years I have been regularly sailing a thirty-eight foot sloop from Pin Mill on the River Orwell and out of Felixstowe and Harwich. Much of this time has been spent at the helm, supporting the yacht owner who purchased the boat with no previous sailing experience. More recently, I completed a week-long coastal passage from Plymouth around the Cornish coast, gaining experience of passage planning, watchkeeping, pilotage, tidal waters, and operating in unfamiliar harbours and anchorages. I have also undertaken sailing in the Solent this year and have further coastal sailing planned, helping me continue to build experience in tidal waters and busy sailing areas. This has given me plenty of hands-on sailing experience and a solid understanding of practical seamanship. To strengthen my skills as I moved from inland to coastal waters, I have completed RYA Yachtmaster Theory (classroom-based), Day Skipper, Powerboat Level 2, the VHF Short Range Certificate, RYA First Aid, and the RYA Sea Survival course. I thoroughly enjoy coastal sailing and the challenges it brings, and I am keen to broaden my experience further. My sailing began as a teenager on the Norfolk Broads, mostly in dinghies. I currently sail a Wayfarer World from Hickling Broad and am an active member of Hickling Sailing Club, where I regularly assist with safety boat duties. In addition to dinghy sailing, last year I chartered a yacht on the Norfolk Broads and spent time as part of a flotilla, covering approximately 100 nautical miles. This provided extensive experience of helming and manoeuvring in confined waters, navigating beneath overhead power lines and very low fixed bridges, passing through swing bridges and the lifting bridges at Lowestoft, crossing Breydon Water, negotiating the lock at Oulton Broad, and handling a yacht through a wide variety of inland waterways. The trip involved a considerable amount of tacking and close-quarters boat handling, making it an excellent practical learning experience. This background has given me strong boat-handling skills and confidence in a wide range of conditions. I am based in North Norfolk, although distance is not an issue. My work involves frequent travel, and I routinely cover long distances, including regular trips of over two hundred miles to Chichester. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to crew, helm, or skipper. I am easy-going, physically fit, punctual, and completely reliable. I try to run three times a week, take everything in my stride, and enjoy working as part of a team. I am also an engineer and a good cook. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Wishing you fair weather and happy sailing, Peter
