Big winds (15 to 20 knots) and swells made for an exciting day. We hit a max speed of 9.2 knots SOG, and 7.8 max recorded boat speed. Iris performed beautifully as always. It was an honor to have Frank aboard for the first of hopefully many sails. He was the prior owner and did a wonderful job outfitting the boat!

Light winds carried us southwest toward an anchored cargo ship off the coast of Coronado Island, where we encountered a huge pot of dolphins. We found ourselves encircled by what appeared to be dozens if not a hundred or more mothers and babies! Coming back, we heard another ship, Glovis, calling for a pilot. As we neared our port, we delayed crossing the channel to allow the ship to pass. The pilot boat buzzed past us, ensuring we stayed out of harm's way, which was very thoughtful as I've never gotten personal attention from a pilot boat. He then circled around us and wished us a nice day. It was a fun and relaxing day.
