5 am Start and a nice sail initially then the wind died and the engine came on. As we approached the IOW the wind came up and we had a cracking sail. Pod of dolphins as we left the French shores made our day even though they refused to play with us. Sailing in company with the other Corsair, Golden Dawn.

Tom Teichmann - Nothing to do with my meagre sailing skills I am afraid. But yes, she is a fast boat. Quite a delight after the bilge keel Fulmar with baggy sails. I am sure the new rig and sails made a difference.

Thought it was going to be all on the nose again but it turned into a lovely close hauled sail with 12-14 knots of wind. Engine off at last. It reminds one why we have sailing boats.

Grandcamp-Maisy to Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, France
Lumpy seas and 15 knots straight on the nose. Planned to go to St Vaast but bad seastate and concerns that we might not make it in time for the gate to shut caused us to change plans.

Ouistreham to Grandcamp-Maisy, France
Very choppy going down the Seine with wind and tide against us. A bit like riding a bronco. Once we turned south West it turned into the best sail so far, close hauled and reaching 8kn at times.

Honfleur to Ouistreham, France
Great wind initially, then nothing for 8 hours, and then a good sail at the end.

Gary O’Grady - I’m back in UK but but stuck in Azores right now. Waiting on engine repairs. I’m on my second mechanic who is mystified why it won’t start. He is persevering. I’ll just cross to Antigua now rather than Newport but wait til. November.

Messed up with the genoa getting wrapped around the forestay and problem with reefing lines not having been shaken out from previous sail. But came 4th out of 9 nevertheless. Bit of a learning curve still with new rig I suppose.
