Very dark sky over Sandy Hook & beyond. Some clear sky above Atlantic Highlands. This was the warning that weather could deteriorate. It did after about 20 minutes when we were halfway across the bay. Very heavy & sustained gusting plus extremely choppy water. Too difficult to head into wind (W, 270) resulting in sails being torn up. Jib shredded.
