Captain Bruce invited me to sail with him on his boat off Kiel, a 26-ft McGregor. The day was Sunny 70*F, Wind 10knts NE with prolonged gusts 15kts+. We furled in the jib after an hour, whitecaps were many and steady. Intended to practice 'Heave/Hove To' maneuver but conditions were too spicy. Maybe next time. When Bruce was bringing down the main sail, Devin didn't use the motor throttle enough to keep the boat in irons and Bruce ended up with a lot of sail in his face making it difficult to bring down for docking. Sorry, Bruce, my bad. Wind also made docking a bit of a challenge. Devin used the boat hook to grab the dock bow line and when stepping onto the dock, tripped over the lifeline and fell into the water up to his waist. While holding the boat hook pole and the bowsprit with arms stretching, he tried to pull the boat closer to the dock so the phone in his breast pocket wouldn't be ruined. As Bruce was able to nudge the boat a little closer to the dock, Devin eventually swung his feet up onto the dock and secured the boat with the bow line. Phew, that was a close one.

Mostly sunny, 76*F, wind ENE sometimes ESE. Sailed E. to Ellis Pt. and back to dock. Jib has been working well. Intended to practice 'Heave To' but forgot. hopefully next time. Noticed cracking in starboard fore corner of cockpit. Hopefully some epoxy will fix it.

Cloudy, 70*F, with 9kts steady south winds. Tacked to ' the channel ' and then came back to dock. Pleasant steady sailing with a couple of 20* heels. Practiced tacking backwinding the jib. Seemed to work well. 'Off Keel' sailed like a champ.

Skipper Chris Gaal invited me, Devin, to sail on his re-finished 24ft boat, the beautiful Angelina. The day was partly sunny with good 'gray bottom' sailing clouds. We sailed NE toward the causeway where we jibed and headed south through the 'LM Bermuda Triangle' almost to Fairfax Beach near Hardin Ridge boat ramp. From there we tacked and headed back north sailing through 'the channel' with remarkably few tacks, maybe just one. As we were half way back to the causeway, the jib started to behave funny, so Skipper Cris, after furling the jib failed, went forward to lower the jib. when it was half way down, the wind caught the jib in a way that the jib started to wack the Skipper on his backside. It was as though Nessie, the Lochness, was was trying to pull him into her lair. After a harrowing moment, the jib was down and we motored about 15 minutes back to Dock A. It was an exceptional sailing day on Lake Monroe.

sunny, mid 70*s, 10kts SSW. First time on Bruce's boat, "Off Keel", MacGregor 26S. 10:30-2:30. I had the stick, Bruce had the sheets. We talked to the south toward the 'channel' until around 1pm when whitecaps began to lift. Had a nice run back to dock with some 'wing on wing'. Afterwards, ate lunch under pavilion. An idyllic day to sail.
