Relax and explore after the regatta. Adriatic Discovery is a post-race adventure cruise from Malta back to Pula — blending serious offshore passages with frequent stops along the historic maritime routes of Southern Italy and Dalmatia. This is the perfect wind-down after the intensity of the Rolex Middle Sea Race. From the fortress of Valletta, we sail north through the Ionian, past Puglia, and into the Adriatic — returning via the Dalmatian islands to Pula. Expect a mix of offshore sailing and coastal exploration at a pace that lets you actually enjoy the stops.

Trip Itinerary: Valletta to Pula

Why We Love This Sailing Expedition

A well-balanced mix of offshore sailing and coastal exploring from Malta back to Pula. Northbound through Italy and the Dalmatian islands, with enough time to enjoy the stops rather than just sail past them.

1

Start - Valletta

Departure from Valletta: Leaving the Grand Harbour of Valletta, we set a course northwards across the Ionian Sea. This initial offshore leg provides the perfect transition from the intense racing environment back into a steady passage-making rhythm.

2

Syracuse

The Ionian Crossing: Depending on weather routing, we may hug the eastern coast of Sicily or take a more direct line toward the Strait of Otranto. Either way, this is a sustained offshore passage that builds on the racing confidence from the RMSR.

3

Bari

The Italian Heel: We reach the coast of Puglia — the heel of Italy — where small fishing harbors and whitewashed towns cling to limestone cliffs. Stops in Santa Maria di Leuca or Otranto offer a taste of authentic Southern Italian maritime culture.

4

Vis

Up the Adriatic: Entering the Adriatic, the cruise takes on a different character. The pace shifts from racing precision to expeditionary cruising. The onshore experiences — sampling fresh seafood and regional specialties from Apulia to Dalmatia — are as formative as the miles logged at sea.

5

Žut

The Croatian Coast: Crossing from Italy to Croatia, the landscape transforms. The Dalmatian islands appear — first as silhouettes, then as a maze of sheltered anchorages, medieval walled towns, and crystal-clear bays that remind you why you sail.

6

End - Pula

Arrival in Pula: Making landfall back in Marina Veruda feels like closing a remarkable loop. You'll return with not just sea miles and offshore experience, but a connection to the maritime routes that linked Malta, Southern Italy, and Croatia for centuries.

Veruda Sailing School is a high-performance offshore training center based in Pula, Croatia. We specialize in demanding mile-builder campaigns, offshore qualifiers, and endurance regattas (such as the Rolex Middle Sea Race, Aegean 600, and La 500). Our expeditions are designed specifically for sailors who want to step up their game, log serious Mediterranean miles, and experience the reality of offshore sailing in a highly structured environment. Aboard our fast, Cat 2-optimized offshore yacht, crew members are never just passengers. You will be fully integrated into the watch system and actively involved in all aspects of the passage, including advanced sail trim, weather routing, night watches, and heavy-weather boat handling. If you are looking to push your limits and learn true seamanship, welcome aboard.

Why We Love Veruda Sailing School

Veruda Sailing School gets the balance right with proper seamanship, serious miles, and real adventure, not just ticking off certificates. Their offshore passages and hands-on training create sailors, not just students, which is exactly what SailTies is about.

What will the type of sailing be like?

What You'll Gain: Continued Mile-Building: Additional offshore miles logged after the regatta — ideal for building towards YM Offshore, YM Ocean, or higher qualifications. Offshore & Coastal Blend: Experience both 24-hour non-stop passages and relaxed coastal navigation. The best of both worlds. Night Sailing: Watchkeeping rotations on overnight legs. Consolidate the confidence built during the regatta. Passage Planning: Practical experience routing along complex coastlines, managing weather windows, and making tactical harbour decisions. Cultural Exploration: Stops at authentic Ionian and Adriatic harbors — places where the marinas are small, the food is extraordinary, and the history runs deep. Mileage & Passage Confirmation: Official documentation of your passage for license applications and logbook records.

Any Specific Requirements?

  • Sailing Experience: Completion of our Advanced Sailing Course (or equivalent verifiable experience). Prior offshore or overnight experience is beneficial but not mandatory — especially if you've just completed the RMSR with us.
  • Physical Fitness: You must be able to handle watch duties for the offshore legs. The coastal days are more relaxed, but the offshore passages demand the same focus as any serious open-water sailing.
  • Dependability: Be prepared to perform roles and assignments as designated by the skipper, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive approach to teamwork.
  • Team Spirit: A positive attitude, sense of humor, and willingness to share tasks. We cook together, clean together, and explore together.
  • Resilience: A genuine love for sailing that endures across varied conditions — from scorching Adriatic sun to brisk night watches.
