A few nights away

With a little gap in our diaries we took the chance to get out and away for a couple of nights, but not far. The forecast was for a gentle F2 from the SW which would be just perfect for an easy beat west to Sandbank in the Holy Loch. With our new feathering prop fitted Moonshadow can make good progress in light winds. As usual the forecast was a complete fabrication and after an hour or so we were on our beam ends in a full-on Force 5 peaking at 22 knots! The shelter of Hunter's Quay was very welcome as we entered the loch. Engine on for the last few hundred metres and we tied up on a visitor's finger behind the outer breakwater. Holy Loch marina has new owners this year and they've made their mark already by installing 10 shiny new toilet suites. Also new for 2026 is the reopened Holy Loch Inn where we enjoyed a post-sailing drink. Taking advantage of the second night half price deal we spent the following day in Dunoon where the rain held off just enough to allow us a good walk along the promenade.
