Ripple
Hunter 45DS
Departed on Sunday morning with light wind and choppy 3-4 ft seas. Motored to platform Grace, and then sailed on a beam reach to Prisoners Anchorage. We anchored bow and stern, generally pointed north with stern facing the beach. With a consistent W wind and swell, we had a fairly rolly berth with swell wrapping around the point and coming in from the north. On Wednesday we sailed to Little Scorpion, in 10-12kts wind on a broad reach. Seas were NW at 4-5 ft, and choppy. Little Scorpion was well protected, although we still felt the 15-20kt evening winds. We did end up with some wrapping swell, and our orientation was too parallel to shore rather than bow-out. We were about midway between bird shit rock to the north and the southern part of the cove. We really enjoyed the anchorage, hiking the Cavern Point loop and kayaking the rocky shore. We departed for home on Friday with 5-7kts NW wind. We sailed on a broad reach with the Genoa for a while at 4-4.5kts through the water. We then launched the spinnaker and got up to 6kts. Sail launched and doused easily with just two of us, and allowed us to sail all the way back even when the wind died down some more. We encountered a huge pod of common dolphins who stayed with us for nearly half the trip. Great sail.
