Foxwhelp, Morning Vicar and Froya sailed upwind to Brixham in the afternoon, in overcast conditions with a light NE'ly breeze, lumpy sea, and slack tide. Quite tiring but pleased with ourselves to arrive in daylight! Foxwhelp was lodged in the marina for a couple of nights. Morning Vicar and Froya slummed it on the Town Pontoon. The following morning MV and F set off for Dartmouth in similar conditions, bouncy again but downwind. After Berry Head the sky brightened and the breeze freshened, to give us a very enjoyable sail back to the Dart.

NE'ly brought up a lumpy sea and progress was slow, tacking up the coast. No help from the tide.

The river Dart enjoyed some late season sunshine and a fickle light breeze. A few boats out but the Dartmouth Food Festival kept many people ashore. Froya met some friends afloat on Saturday, then anchored off Ashprington Point. The early morning mist on Sunday soon burned off and with no breeze at all it was a good opportunity to explore some of the creeks and backwaters.

Yesterday Foxwhelp and Froya left the Dart in a nice SSW'ly. Lovely sunny morning and Froya had a good full-sail downwind sail on the last of the flood tide to Berry Head and across Torbay to Torquay harbour. Foxwhelp left later and reefed in Torbay as clouds gathered and the wind grew blustery. Overnight it rained heavily. Another lovely day for the return with a light W'ly, the two boats sailing in company. Very comfortable sailing conditions and we took lots of photos.

Several small boats sailed, and motored, on an autumn day, up the Dart and along Bow Creek to the lovely old riverside pub at Tuckenhay. Great conversation over an excellent pub lunch, before sailing home in the afternoon. 'Froya' stayed on her mooring and I crewed for John on 'Nimble'.

The event attracted entries from a good number of small modern Gaffers, who have formed the Tiny Gaffers sailing group. Day 1 was a lovely summer day but only a very little wind. We sailed the set course off the river mouth and afterwards met up for a very pleasant social gathering.
