Relax and explore after the rigors of the regatta. The Odyssey Return is a post-race adventure cruise from Cefalonia to Trogir — blending serious 24-hour offshore pushes with frequent stops at the most beautiful, authentic historic harbors between Greece and Croatia. This is the perfect wind-down after the intensity of the Aegean 600 Regatta. We trace the path of ancient mariners, stopping at key historical sites that define the connection between Greece and the Adriatic, from the Venetian fortresses of Corfu to the ancient Greek colonies of Epidaurus, Pharos, and Tragurion.
A rewarding run north from Kefalonia to Trogir, mixing a few proper 24-hour passages with stops in some of the Adriatic’s most characterful harbours. History at every turn, good sailing in between, and enough time ashore to actually take it all in.
4.5/5•17 AvisVeruda Sailing School is a high-performance offshore training center based in Pula, Croatia. We specialize in demanding mile-builder campaigns, offshore qualifiers, and endurance regattas (such as the Rolex Middle Sea Race, Aegean 600, and La 500). Our expeditions are designed specifically for sailors who want to step up their game, log serious Mediterranean miles, and experience the reality of offshore sailing in a highly structured environment. Aboard our fast, Cat 2-optimized offshore yacht, crew members are never just passengers. You will be fully integrated into the watch system and actively involved in all aspects of the passage, including advanced sail trim, weather routing, night watches, and heavy-weather boat handling. If you are looking to push your limits and learn true seamanship, welcome aboard.
Veruda Sailing School gets the balance right with proper seamanship, serious miles, and real adventure, not just ticking off certificates. Their offshore passages and hands-on training create sailors, not just students, which is exactly what SailTies is about.
Departure from Cefalonia: We leave the Ionian island of Cefalonia in our wake, beginning the journey northward. Ahead lies a route that traces the path of Odysseus himself — through the islands that shaped Greek mythology and into the Adriatic heart of the Venetian empire.
The Ionian Start (Cefalonia → Corfu): We sail north past Ithaca — Odysseus's home — and Paxos to Corfu (Kerkyra). This leg involves navigating the channel between the islands and the Albanian coast.
The Return to Epidaurus (Corfu → Cavtat): The "Otranto Crossing" northbound. We leave Greek waters and sail across the strait to re-enter Croatia at Cavtat (ancient Epidaurus). This is a tactical leg, often fighting the prevailing NW Maestral.
The Calypso Trap (Cavtat → Mljet): A short hop to Mljet, believed by scholars to be the mythical Ogygia. This is where the nymph Calypso held Odysseus captive. We visit the stunning Odysseus Cave (Odisejeva špilja), accessible only from the sea.
The Ancient Field (Mljet → Hvar): We sail to Stari Grad (Pharos) on Hvar. We visit the UNESCO-protected Stari Grad Plain, the best-preserved Greek land division in the Mediterranean.
The Greek Legacy (Hvar → Trogir): The final leg to Trogir (ancient Tragurion). Founded by Greeks from Vis (Issa), its orthogonal street plan is the perfect historical bookend to our journey.
