For Day Skippers to Yachtmasters - build navigation confidence and experience using Yachtmaster-level planning and execution in real Solent conditions. Sail aboard a Jeanneau 41 in the Solent, one of the most intensively charted and navigated areas in the world. Working in teams of two, you will use the RYA’s Assess, Plan, Execute, Monitor framework to prepare and complete a real passage. How it works: 1. Assess (pre-sail video call) Consider tides, weather, traffic, hazards, vessel capability, crew experience, and possible routes. 2. Plan (pre-sail video call) Develop a full Yachtmaster-standard passage plan with the team. Assess in video call 2. 3. Execute (sail in the Solent) Sail the passage. Maximum 8 crew plus skipper. 4 watch stations in teams of 2. Two independent navigation stations. Teams rotate watches through sailing, active navigation, shadow navigation, and off-watch. 4. Monitor (sail in the Solent) Track position, progress, ETA, weather, tide, traffic, and whether the plan still fits reality. Sail duration 8-12 hours. 5. Review and learn (post sail video call) Debrief the decisions, adaptations, execution, and lessons. This is a flexible, bespoke practical sailing day designed to build real-world confidence. It is practice, not an RYA course.
