The Long Way
The Long Way is an expedition company focused on small-scale wilderness expeditions on land and at sea. Our name comes from Bernard Moitessier's book The Long Way, which recounts his voyage in the 1968 Golden Globe Race and, more importantly, his decision not to finish it. After months alone in the Southern Ocean, the fame awaiting him felt hollow compared to the freedom and clarity he had found at sea. Rather than return to claim his prize, he continued sailing, announcing his withdrawal by passing a note to a passing ship, explaining he was continuing "because I am happy at sea and perhaps also to save my soul." That spirit is at the heart of everything we do.
Why We Love The Long Way
These are not luxury cruises. Authentic blue water sailing and big ocean racing.
