New York to St Pierre & Miquelon via Newport & Halifax From the city lights of New York to the rugged coastlines of Atlantic Canada, this expedition aboard SV Sea Dragon combines offshore passage-making with the exploration of wild, northern waters. Sailing through the Gulf of Maine and along the coasts of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, it’s a voyage that bridges cultures, climates, and latitudes. Departing from Brooklyn Bridge Marina, we’ll head north, leaving the bustle of the city behind as we make for open water. The route may include a stop in Halifax—a welcoming port steeped in maritime history—before continuing toward St Pierre & Miquelon, a remote French territory off Newfoundland’s southern coast. Expect cooler temperatures, longer daylight hours, and abundant wildlife—whales, seabirds, and perhaps even icebergs drifting south from the Arctic. This leg offers a different kind of challenge: variable winds, cold fronts, and tidal currents that demand good seamanship and teamwork. It’s an ideal opportunity for sailors looking to expand their experience in more complex northern conditions. You’ll also get to: *Experience offshore and coastal sailing in North Atlantic conditions *Build confidence navigating tidal waters and cooler-weather systems *Visit Halifax en route to St Pierre & Miquelon *See marine wildlife and explore the dramatic landscapes of Atlantic Canada * Deepen your understanding of passage planning, weather, and coastal approaches Sailing with Panexplore means hands-on experience in real-world conditions. You’ll work alongside professional crew, sharing responsibilities and developing the practical skills that make confident offshore sailors. Our onboard cuisine is inspired by the places we sail through. Our galley follows a local & ocean-inspired philosophy — prioritizing local produce, coastal flavors, and fresh catch when the ocean provides. We can cater to specific diet, just let us know!y.
From the skyscrapers of New York to the wild edges of Atlantic Canada, this voyage packs a lot into one run north. Great sailing, plenty of wildlife, and the slightly surreal moment of arriving in a tiny slice of France just off Newfoundland.
Days 1–2: Join SV Sea Dragon in New York for introductions, safety briefings, and preparations for departure.
Days 13–15: Continue north-east toward St Pierre & Miquelon, making landfall among dramatic cliffs and French coastal charm. Disembark by late morning on the final day.
