Wavysail is a British expedition sailing company specialising in small-group sailing adventures for all experience levels. Award-winning, sustainably run, and never more than six guests per departure, we take people to some of the world's most extraordinary coastlines — and Scotland's is among the finest we sail. The North Coast 500 is Scotland's answer to Route 66 — a legendary journey around the wild northern Highlands that has captured the imagination of travellers worldwide. This is our version. Same coastline, same drama, same sense of discovery — but from the water, where the real Scotland reveals itself. If you've heard of the NC500 road trip and wondered what it looks like from the sea, this is your answer. Aboard Déjà Vue, our expedition yacht, you'll circumnavigate Scotland over three spectacular legs with skipper Fred Conradie. Join a single leg, two, or take on the full 30-day adventure — and if you're doing the full tour, your berth is yours throughout, with the option of a cabin to yourself. No prior sailing experience is required. This is a stretching, hands-on expedition — more demanding than our Croatian coastal sailing, but well within reach of any motivated first-timer. For more experienced sailors, Fred will give you as much challenge and involvement as you're looking for. Life aboard Déjà Vue is a Bavaria 46 — a serious, comfortable offshore yacht with well-appointed private berths and everything needed for extended cruising in northern waters. Six guests maximum, one exceptional skipper, and a shared sense of adventure that builds over the course of the voyage. You're an active part of the crew from day one. Fred brings deep offshore experience and a genuine feel for this coastline — he knows where to anchor when the weather turns, which sea loch rewards an extra hour's detour, and how to get the best from both the boat and the people aboard. This is expedition sailing, not a cruise. Three Legs, One Extraordinary Coastline Starting in Largs — easily reached from Glasgow — the route unfolds across three distinct chapters, each with its own character: Leg 1 takes you from Largs to Stornoway, through the Hebrides and the wild Atlantic approaches to the Outer Isles. Leg 2 runs from Stornoway to Wick, rounding Cape Wrath and tracking the dramatic northern coast. Leg 3 completes the circumnavigation from Wick back to Largs — including a transit of the Caledonian Canal, one of Scotland's great engineering feats and a journey through the heart of the Highlands. Changeovers in Stornoway and Wick give full-tour guests time to explore two of Scotland's most characterful towns before the next leg begins. The scenery throughout is extraordinary — sea lochs, white sand beaches, ancient mountains, cliff coastlines, and island anchorages that see virtually no other visitors. For travellers from North America discovering Scotland for the first time, this route delivers the country at its most raw and most memorable. The full expedition Three legs of 10 days each, approximately 30 days in total. Individual leg listings available separately. Maximum six guests. All experience levels welcome. Scotland — the way it was meant to be seen.
Forget doing Northcoast 500 in a campervan, do it by sea instead!
