Raced in my twenties and thirties, did what I was told and knew nothing about sailing but loved the rush of the her heeling and speeding through the wind! Now retired, bought a 23’ Merit Sprint and been dreaming of costal cruising. Active in NauticEd and SailTies. Two awesome resources.

San Juan, PR to Puerto Plata DR

Two days 6 hour sail to the Dominican. Point north and heading home!!! Crew is awesome, well fed and decent weather. Squalls at night are a little terrifying but we manage. Capt Bruce knows his vessel well. We were going to spend a night her but the winds really tail off at the start of next week…..so let’s do this……..

Making our way to San Juan

12 mile jaunt that I helmed from off of the hook to onto a ball-one motor gang man style!! Not before Bruce speared a Snapper to go with steak tonight. Live aboard surf n turf. Within 30 miles of the Capital, San Juan where we get two new crew and lose the best chef ever C-Mo but not before we have Thanksgiving together in town.

Around the horn-No not Cape Horn!

Started with wild horse watching and a beach walk. Sunday Beach Service, with horses living the scripture too. Some eats with new friends than off for a quick jaunt around the west horn of Isle de Vieques. Tomorrow we will do another quick run across to the Puerto Rico mainland. Then sail to San Juan. ⚓️⛵️-Jim

Demystifying sailing myths 😎 Not really

Steady downwind sail to Isle de Vieques-Sun Bay Beach. Couple of non keeper fish and caught a crab pot. Captain did a masterful job shaking the pot, no harm to the pot nor the vessel. And we had bananas aboard!🤣

Jim Formato - Thanks Billy. Some challenging passages after T-Giving. Should be an Ole Salt when this is over. Learning a ton from Capt Bruce

Broad reach to St Thomas. Prevent worked well-it was a text book Caribbean sail😁✅. Heard we are having strip steak on that boat in the pic- notice the egg!! Yeah baby

William Borowski - Sailing through the night, seems like it would be a whole different world/experience. you’re living the dream brother. Like I say to my Motorcycle friends “keep it upright“ LOL. Ps: you’re a lot closer to the equator than I am so I’m guessing that it’s warmer there than it is here in Buffalo, New York (45°F).
